Position Summary:
The primary mission and purpose of the EMT is to respond to emergent and non-emergent requests while delivering quality patient care. The EMT will deliver high levels of customer service while providing care within the appropriate scope of practice.
Essential Duties and Functions:
EMT may be assigned one or more duties. These duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Adheres to the policies and procedures of the company.
- Provides highest levels of patient care and customer service within the scope of practice, protocols, procedures and medical direction.
- Completes all appropriate documentation in a timely manner that is in accordance with company policies and procedures. Documentation should be clear, thorough and concise. Maintains communications, medical and supplies equipment in accordance with applicable standards.
- Make accurate and ongoing assessments of patient’s status and respond appropriately.
- Meeting or exceeding company standards of keeping vehicles and stations in a clean and presentable manner at all times.
- Operates the emergency vehicle in accordance with company policy and safe practices.
- Completes and participates in all daily assignments.
- Maintains a professional appearance and conducts themselves in a professional manner.
- Responds to instructions from dispatcher and drives specially equipped emergency vehicles to specified locations.
- Will have the ability to work in an environment conducive to caring for patients, with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to self or others.

Education/Certifications/Licensure/Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the following:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Current and valid state driver’s license.
- Current and valid California State EMT license
- Valid CPR-BLS Provider level certification through AHA
- Ambulance Driver’s certification
- Current and valid Medical Examiners Certification (DL51)
- NREMT and other certifications as required
- H-6 DMV print out (10 year driving record – must be within 30 days of date of application for employment) - Driving record must be satisfactory with the company driving policy.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as an example for all others.
Work Environment:
EMT-Basic will be exposed to virus, disease and infection from patients and specimens in working environment. EMT-Basic may experience traumatic situations, including psychiatric, dismembered and deceased patients.

This position requires that the EMT-Basic must frequently: Drive, Walk, Stand, Sit, Kneel, Bend, Lift and Carry up to 150 pounds. Must be able to use good judgement, remain calm in stressful situations and must be able to communicate effectively – written and verbally.
This position requires that the EMT-Basic must constantly have the ability to bend and stoop, ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Must possess hand-eye- foot coordination. Must have adequate vision and be able to distinguish colors. Must possess, good hand and finger
dexterity.
Must be able to tolerate work in an outdoor environment (heat, cold, rain, etc).
Travel:
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
