Primary objective
To provide administration of applications made under the Northern Territory Firearms Act and Regulations and the
Weapons Control Act and Regulations.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Process applications including vetting for completeness and undertake relevant agency enquiries including criminal
history checks on applicants and associates as required.
2. Submit completed applications for specific license categories with recommendations to the Officer in Charge, Firearms
Policy and Records Unit for further consideration.
3. Issue licences, permits and registrations approved under the Firearms Act 1997.
4. Maintain records and provide high level of assistance to public, NT Police Service, interstate Police Services and other
government agencies.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability in providing high level of accuracy in computer and keyboard skills in particular the Microsoft
Office software packages of Word, Excel and Outlook.
2. Demonstrated appropriate interpersonal, communication and organisational skills, which have resulted in effective
team membership.
3. Demonstrated accurate clerical skills and a sound knowledge of, or ability to rapidly acquire sound knowledge of, office
procedures, including records management and relevant legislation.
4. Proven integrity and the demonstrated ability to deal with confidentiality and sensitive issues.
5. Proven ability to work with minimal supervision as a member of a team to achieve set goals and deadlines.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, the various computer systems utilised by the Northern
Territory Police.
2. Knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, the Northern Territory Firearms Act.
3. Possess or be able to quickly acquire basic knowledge of firearm types and categories.
